02/15/2002 Archived Entry: "Metropolis Anime"

In honor of St. Valentine's Day, we went to see Metropolis last night (the anime, not the 1920s silent movie). I didn't know that the manga the film was adapted from was published in 1949! This explains the contrast between the old-fashioned character design and the high-tech CGI settings. Tezuka, who wrote the original manga, was also the creator of Astro Boy. A bit long, but worth seeing.
