Today was the day for seeing artsy behind-the-scenes documentaries for me at SIFF. In the morning, A Dream in Hanoi showed an American theater company and a Vietnamese company collaborating on the first-ever production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in Viet Nam. In the afternoon, I'd persuaded my fiance Jack to join me at Super 8 Stories by Emir Kusturica -- I'd seen it at a screening and knew he'd enjoy the hard rock mixed with folk music, along with the band's rough humor and energy. Last was Last Dance, which depicted Maurice Sendak and Pilobolus working together on a piece based on music by Holocaust-killed composer Hans Krasa.
The common factor in these three is backstage fighting. I guess this is inevitable by the nature of artistic collaboration, and it makes for dramatic video!
