01/02/2003 Archived Entry: "Matthew Algeo on NPR"

I'm listening to Matthew Algeo doing a Morning Edition story about the "food crisis" (aid workers prefer not to use the f word -- famine). Matt is an old friend from when we were working at Book Publishing Company in the early nineties, proofreading municipal codes. You know it was a bad situation when work conditions drive quiet, shy editors and proofreaders to strike! We lost the strike, of course, which was actually good for us -- many got jobs in the multimedia publishing boom at Microsoft. If not for the strike we might still be working there! I get a kick out of it whenever I hear Matt on the air; I remember how hard he worked on radio stories he submitted on spec to KUOW. He's normally at Maine Public Radio, but right now is working internationally on a Pew Fellowship. Go Matt!
