01/27/2003 Archived Entry: "Ginger Altoids?"

Yukino is talking about Ginger Altoids, which I haven't found yet. Maybe they are only on the East side? Adam Flangy News Vanderberg has seen them but didn't buy. I've liked the ginger candies I've bought at Asian grocery stores. I'm very fond of ginger preserves (aka ginger marmalade), too!

No problem, yukino!

D'oh! I was at Cash and Carry and should have looked there.

Don't mean to flood your blog with Ginger Altoids stuff. Just wanted to say that I stopped by the 7-11 on Main & 148th in Bellevue and they also had them; when I left they still had ten tins in stock (six in an aisle and four at a counter). So it seems that 7-11s may be a reasonable bet, though not a sure one.

I checked the 7-11 down the block and they said they'd ordered them in the past, but stopped ordering because they didn't sell as well as other flavors.

Thank heaven for ... 7-11, of all places! It wouldn't help for me to tell you which one I found them at, because I bought out the entire stock, but it might help those of you looking to look more low-brow. :)

Trader Joes in Issaquah: Nope.
Larry's Market in Bellevue: Nope.

Got a promising lead on another Trader Joe's, will check tonight.

Trader Joes in U-district: Bzzt.

Also Bartells, U-bookstore, The Asian Grocery formerly known as City Greens, and the grocery on the same block as Bulldog. All sell Altoids, yet no ginger varietal. Bartells has the largest Altoids selection, though. I'd keep an eye on them.

The overlake Trader Joe's was a bust, but I'll be trying some more yuppie markets today in hope of finding them. I was given the one I had by a friend last week, and foolishly forgot to ask where it was acquired.

Thanks, Rachel! I'll check next time I'm down in Burien or over by Overlake on the East side. I don't usually go to the TJs in the u-district since parking is so tough there.

You might try Trader Joe's for the Ginger Altoids--that's the only place I've seen them in Seattle, and they sometimes hand out free samples at the registers.
