03/31/2003 Archived Entry: "Cheese Curds"
Do you know about cheese curds? I bought some at Central Market yesterday, mild-tasting orange blobs (ha! at first I wrote "blogs") the size of the first joint of my little finger. Those who grew up on them are crazy about them! I'm more in the camp of the Food Scientist -- I liked them fine but I wasn't overwhelmed. Apparently freshness is a factor but the ones I bought were only a few days old. No, I'm not going to deep-fry them!

It's not easy to explain to non-Japanese folks, either. could be confused with cottage cheese, or curds and whey.

Hi... I'm from Wisconsin. Cheese curds rule. Can't get them here in Japan. Also... it's next to impossible to explain what cheese curds are a Japanese person. Cheers,

i saw them at top foods up in edmonds when i was house sitting for my mother. i'd never seen them in this area before (only in rural idaho, and they were in bags, not plastic containers with lids). i resisted purchasing them though, even though it was quite tempting. :)

oh, I ate some yesterday and the rest tonight, and they were fine. I'll wait for the fried ones until I visit Madison sometime -- my friends bug me to come to Wiscon every year!

Omigod--breaded and deep fried is the only way to understand the allure of a cheese curd. I was born & raised in Wisconsin--it's almost a staple. LOL Seriously, it may not be all that healthy, but you have to try it breaded and deep fried at least once. :)
