04/02/2003 Archived Entry: "Crop Art Gallery"

While looking for cheese curd links, I found the Crop Art Gallery! Most examples made from real seeds (I found one that was electronic). There's a crop art exhibition every year at the Minnesota State Fair, but how can you tell what's good? Some crop art has been censored due to audience complaints -- you be the judge.

I guess the biggest example of crop art in the world would be the Corn Palace! But I can't believe that cornpalace.org currently has no picture of the Corn Palace on the front page -- what's up with that? Oh, well, here's one, and Roadside Attractions has a good report.

How could anyone not have heard of crop art? Oh wait, I'm from Minnesota and have attended the MN state fair at least once a year since I was a very small child.

There is a corn palace webcam linked to from the corn palace page. Unless they took it down.

(Every time I visit Mitchell, I consider telling people that I'll go stand in front of the corn palace at such and such time on a certain day so people can go look. Heh).

I did have to check the date on the referral to crop art (was it an April fools joke).

It's an interesting form of art. Thanks for another good link.

It's definitely a regional, folk thing.

What an interesting art form! I personally don't find "La Diablita" to be offensive or obscene, but I wouldn't hang it in my living room. I don't think it should have been taken down though, especially since it won a ribbon.
