08/03/2003 Archived Entry: "Bike Ride in Eastern Washington"

Helen of Up From Sloth and Andr00 are still doing bike training. She writes about a stressful ride they did starting at Coulee Dam on the dry side of Washington when it was really too hot. "How do these long rides get so awful? Because we make the mistake of taking them out to the sticks, where there are no people or buildings, or stoplights, or mini-marts, or infrastructure of any kind except the hot black pavement. So yesterday we're in Grand Coulee for an 80-miler. The route's supposed to cross the dam twice, but nobody crosses the dam now, not after 9/11. Instead we start from the rest stop at the north dam on Banks Lake. It's a cooker. The car says it's 95 degrees."

Helen would laugh at that. Her writing is wonderful, I agree! worth going through her archives. Do send her a note!

She and Andrew met at an online journal get-together back in 1998 but didn't get together themselves for a while.

Thank you for linking to Up From Sloth. I had never seen it. What a beautiful journal. I want to write to her to tell her how good I think her writing is, but... "I'm not worthy!"
