02/24/2004 Archived Entry: "Octavia Butler Reading and Radio"
This afternoon on KUOW, Octavia Butler talks about the 25th anniversary of her novel Kindred. She's also reading tonight at the University Bookstore, 7 pm. More on Butler in this PI article: "A night class at UCLA, taught by science-fiction master Theodore Sturgeon, became a turning point in Butler's life as a writer and a person. She was the only black student and sat there as the professor quizzed students about books they had read and they expounded at length about books that Butler had never heard of, let alone read."
