03/17/2004 Entry: "Study Questions For Northanger Abbey"

Margaret Sullivan who writes Sick and Wicked, a weblog with lots of Jane Austen content, has posted some discussion questions on Northanger Abbey that she did for her JASNA regional reading group. "I confess I did work hard on making the questions interesting and thought-provoking, because I wrongly assumed that there would be a lack of enthusiasm for the novel."

She's also posted an update on the status of Andrew Davies' Northanger Abbey adaptation, and the outlook is distinctly cloudy. "Rumors have reached us of a shakeup at A&E; Delia Fine, the V.P. in charge of original films, whose name is on miniseries from P&P2 to all the Hornblower series, has been demoted or is no longer with A&E. American money is vital to the British companies financing classic adaptations. If it's true, this sucks rocks. Arts & Entertainment, my arse. 'The Official Channel of Snore-Inducing True Crime Reenactments and Tacky Ice Skating Spectaculars,' more like."
