11/15/2004 Entry: "Julie Leung Fame"
There's a good article about Julie Leung in the Kitsap Sun. and a slightly different version in the Bainbridge Islander (but no online version of that one). "For most couples, these are private moments conducted behind closed doors. And so they are in the Leung home — until, that is, they're shared with the rest of the planet through Julie's 'blog' — an amalgam of the term 'Web log,' for any online journal of an interactive, multimedia nature — for anybody with a computer and an Internet connection to read."
Julie comments on the experience: "Much has been made of the tension between bloggers and journalists. I don't want to delve into the debate but I will say that it was an educational experience to be a blogger and the subject of a newspaper piece. Also to see that piece change in different publications based on the constraints and interests. I feel I have a greater understanding of the debate."
I do think that Jake of 8bit Joystick should have been mentioned in the list of area webloggers.

This gentleman did not find out about my site until Friday when he had to go to press later on that night. I can't check my email at work so he did not get a chance to talk to me before his press deadline but he was very nice and will contact me for future blog related articles. I have been in that paper a couple times so it is ok for me.

Thanks, Anita. I also think that Jake should have been listed. The article was orginally written for the Bainbridge paper. When I heard from the reporter that it was being expanded for a Kitsap edition in the Sun, I suggested Jake's blog. I don't know why Jake wasn't mentioned. After I read the various versions, I emailed the reporter and we discussed my concerns. As I commented, I learned a lot about how the media (newspaper) functions. I'm sorry Jake wasn't in the article and I'm sorry that many other bloggers weren't interviewed. I am grateful though that it was a positive piece and I hope that others in our community are encouraged to start blogging.
