09/14/2005 Archived Entry: "Chemo Support"
An Ask Metafilter thread full of suggestions for those helping people undergoing chemo. I've really had only a few of these problems, and most of the time between sessions hasn't been bad. Even on days when I haven't had much appetite, I haven't worried about eating a bunch of high-calorie food. If I'm watching different TV programs, is it because of chemo, or because I feel more entitled now to tune in the house porn where before I'd have skipped it. "one friend said that her mom's bout with breast cancer left her with completely different interests in television (my friend said her mom never missed an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, and since her chemo she hasn't watched a single show)."

Anita,
Thanks so much for posting this! I used it to get suggestions for a close friend, just diagnosed, who lives in Boston, much too far. I also sent her the link (and bought her a cookbook.) I'll pass along the idea of snacks too.

I've been fortunate enough to avoid most of these problems, so far. I'm taking enough drugs the first few days that nausea hasn't been a problem.
the post about a diabetic diet is one that I related to. I think I'm going to pack a lunch and take it with me for the next session. They provide a sandwich and snacks but high-protein snacks, not so much.

Was there anything there you found particularly helpful?
I'll try to remember to look it over in detail when I get back to the city.
