09/26/2006 Entry: "Sharpe's Challenge"

Last night we watched the first half of Sharpe's Challenge on BBC America. (Will the second part be on next Monday? I saw no promotional ads for it, though surely every other BBC America show was blurbed multiple times!) IMDb says that this is a loose adaptation of three of Bernard Cornwell's Sharp novels: Sharpe's Tiger, Sharpe's Triumph, and Sharpe's Fortress. Some changes were necessary because the TV adaptations had started with Sharpe gaining his comission in Spain, not in India.

Jack thought this was filmed in Spain (a castle had that look to him), but the offical website says it was shot entirely in India. Worth watching, good production values, very entertaining so far.

It was on here in NH a few weeks back...as well as a fascinating The Making of Sharpe's Challenge...regarding some the difficulties they encountered filming in India. Excellent!
