10/12/2006 Archived Entry: "October Seattle Weblog Meetup"

Wednesday, October 18, it's the Seattle Weblog Meetup! Start time is 7 pm, location is Ralph's Grocery and Deli, 2035 4th Ave (map and directions), in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood, diagonally across from the Cinerama. Free WiFi, food and drink available (you can buy anything in the store and consume it in the deli area, so that includes wine and beer if you want). Local and visiting webloggers talk about blog topics and lots else. Topic for the evening: tagging. I hope to see you there!

I am sorry Anita. I came down with a superbad cold and I didn't feel like coming and exposing you all to my viral funk. I actually had to rush my girlfriend to the hospital after she had a hard time breathing after her cold moved into her lungs.

Well Dan I have used Gallery and WebCalendar to enhance MovableType powered websites and think that they are super spiffy.

http://www.ydwa.org/ is powered by MT

http://www.ydwa.org/calendar/ is WebCalendar

http://www.ydwa.org/gallery/ is Gallery http://gallery.sourceforge.net/

For blogspam I use the comment moderation feature in MT and I have TypeKey registered comments publish instantly while non TypeKey comments have to go through MT and I have to approve them. This weeds out all the spam but the speed of converstation is slowed down. I don't use trackback at all because it has basically been taken over by spammers.

I would love to have some topic ideas for the evening. Here are my suggestions:

-Techniques for combatting blog spam
-Useful companion applications to mainline blog packages (i.e. photo galleries, forums, wikis, torrent trackers, content management systems, plugins, etc.)
