Past year's birthdays:

Tonight I think we'll go eat dim sum.

One of my favorite romance authors, Mary Jo Putney, interviews another of my favorites, Jo Beverley, about her new book titled Lady Beware. Both have written series of romances where the characters are tied together in various ways. The interview is at Word Wenches, a group blog composed of romance writers.

MJP: What conclusions have you reached about writing long series?

JB: That it's the ideal way to go if an author enjoys world building, but daunting if one thinks about it. (But then so is writing a novel. It took me years to get the guts to sit down and start work on something that might not be finished for a year.) Even just writing a story for each Rogue meant ten novels (though in the end I didn't write one about Hal, but wove his story in with the rest.) Ten novels is a life's work to some authors. So I'm not sure anyone could or should set out to do it. Put like that, I suppose my whole writing life is flying into the mist! It was great to move into the post-Rogues phase, to not have threads to tie up anymore. Even though there are Rogues in Lady Beware and a Rogue connection, all the pivotal events rise from Darien's family and history. That was writerly fun.

It's a great time to visit the Bellevue Botanical Garden! It's free, not hard to get to, and full of gorgeous plants. My grandson R---- and I were walking there today. I didn't understand at first which building he was talking about when he wanted to see "the wooden clubhouse." When he pointed to the gate to the Yao Japanese Garden and said, "It's like that, but bigger!" I knew he wanted to go to the Tateuchi Viewing Pavilion, so we did.

Cool pix dude has a bunch of photos of the garden on Flickr. Here are some from May 14.

Wednesday, May 16, it's the Seattle Weblog Meetup! Start time is 7 pm, location is Ralph's Grocery and Deli, 2035 4th Ave, in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood, diagonally across from the Cinerama. Free WiFi, food and drink available (you can buy anything in the store and consume it in the deli area, so that includes wine and beer if you want). Local and visiting webloggers talk about blog topics and lots else. Topic for the evening:??? (Do you have a suggestion?). I hope to see you there! Parking can be tight in the neighborhood but I usually find a space on Sixth or pay to park in the Warwick Hotel garage across the street for six bucks.
