The vanity of being known to be trusted with a secret is generally one of the chief motives to disclose it.

The difference between the Secret Festival and the rest of SIFF? For full-series pass holders, it's this:
At normal festival screenings, there are three lines. One is for the full-series pass holders, one is for people who have purchased tickets for that show before the day of the show, and one is for folks who hope that tickets will be available for purchase a half hour before showtime. They let us full-series pass holders inside first, so we get to pick the seats we want. Then the ticket holders, then as many ticket buyers as there is room for. They count us carefully as we all go in, and usually everything works out fine. Some shows do sell out, and a full-series pass holder who arrives late might get turned away. This might happen if you were trying to get from the Egyptian to the Harvard Exit, a distance of about twelve or fifteen blocks, and the previous movie ran long or started late.
At the Secret Festival, there is only one line. The Secret sells out almost as soon as tickets go on sale. Full-series pass holders don't get in early, we line up with everyone else. The result is an arms race; people start lining up earlier and earlier Sunday mornings. The show doesn't start till 12:30 PM, but some folks arrive around 9:00 AM! People bring the Sunday paper, bagels, and snacks. Today I saw a few people sitting on folding chairs playing cards. My festival buddies and I have arranged things so we don't all have to arrive early each week. A---- came early this morning, W--- will do it next week, and me the week after that. That gave me the opportunity to update my journal.
