He had been eight years upon a project for extracting sunbeams out of cucumbers, which were to be put into vials hermetically sealed, and let out to warm the air in raw, inclement summers.

Today the product beta I've been working on was released. (Did I mention I am contracting on the IE4 team? It's very gratifying to see that people like it, at least the people who have been eagerly waiting for this release.
I sent notices of some Cacophony events to the singles events and outings Public folder (like a newsgroup in email). I am always trying to get new folks to come to events, since it's inevitable that some will drop by the wayside sometime. Mars needs women and Cacophony needs members. Cacophony has name recognition far greater than the number of people who really attend.
Because we are doing a badminton golf event this weekend, I dug up from a box (I usually have these things on a bulletin board in my office, when I have an office) an article from a free downtown paper that had pictures of us playing that game before, so I could send a copy to my Sidewalk.com buddy. I was startled to see that that issue was two years old! It really doesn't seem that long ago.

Tonight was the fourth in the series of Clarion readings. Tappan King and Beth Meachum both read stories about dogs and about abuse. Good stuff! The summer is going so fast.
Before the reading I wandered around The Paper Cat, a rubber stamp and card store a few doors away from Elliot Bay Books. I looked but didn't buy anything. I need to get going on some stamping again; mail art is an activity I enjoy. Hmmm, if I had a scanner, I could do stamp art and scan it for the web! I love carving my own stamps from erasers. This is something that is a lot easier than people think; I always try to get people to try it.
When I got back to my car, I was struck by the contrasts around me. The time was twilight. (Twilight comes late in northerly Seattle in the summer.) I was parked under a viaduct in Pioneer Square, so trash, broken bottles, dumpsters and loading docks were all around, but next to the viaduct daylilies were at their peak, blooming along the path. Beautiful!
