Los Angeles gives one the feeling of the future more strongly than any city I know of. A bad future, too, like something out of Fritz Lang's feeble imagination.

L.A. Confidential

Sunday, October 5, 1997

Ha! I am listening to "Savage Love Live," the radio show by the sex advice columnist Dan Savage. The show is great, really very funny and frank. I just usually forget to turn it on Sunday evenings. Check it out in Real audio!

I got the Cacophony pages updated yesterday, and added a whole new section: event reports! The first of these is the Inanimate Object Bungee Jump report.

We had a gathering to watch the season premieres of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. (If your tv series fails these days, it's because it doesn't have a colon in the title.) Herc got bumped because the baseball game ran long, but Xena and DS9 lived up to expectations.

I really like these sorts of gatherings. I'm a sucker for group solidarity! Like Quentin Crisp, I'll accept any invitation.

Then on to Vanguard! During the conversation that Luke describes, we were siting in the booth in Frank and Molly's kitchen. They really have a great house. It's one of those cute Seattle bungalows, and they have had the time and funds to make it very comfortable. Lots of space for their neat collections and projects!

Today a group of us went to see "L.A. Confidential." Due to my neurotic promptness I was the first one there, so I saved some seats till the others arrived, feeling conspicuous as I waited. (It isn't going to the movie alone that makes me feel awkward, but standing up in the theater as it fills up, trying to save seats and not knowing how many to save.) Finally they showed up. What a great movie! I haven't heard any bad comments about it. I really want to read the books it is based on now. Then Victor, Lesley, Sheila and I went to dinner at Janny's Curry House in Wallingford.

So that's the weekend and I didn't do the things I was planning to do. In my imagination I saw myself taking care of lots of stuff, which I didn't do. I need to:

  • get the VCR serviced
  • clean the kitchen
  • clean the bathroom
  • pick up the living room and dining room
  • get the carpet cleaned.

With dinner at my sister's house one night, dance class another, something I want to do Friday night, that doesn't leave much time. Too bad my neurotic need to be prompt doesn't also extend to a neurotic workoholic tendency!
