Actors ought to be larger than life. You come across quite enough ordinary, nondescript people in daily life and I don't see why you should be subjected to them on the stage too.

Unwarranted Repose

Tuesday, October 7, 1997

From my task list of Sunday, I have accomplished exactly one item: I cleaned up the bathroom. Even the floor looks good! My bathroom has a few odd quirks. There is a window that opens onto an airshaft. There is a very nice pink bathtub, which I would want to keep even when I remodel, because it fits with the way the room is laid out, and they literally don't make them like that anymore. There is also a hole in the ceiling where my upstairs neighbor had a plumbing problem. It just wasn't worth having it patched, when the whole room really needs to be redone.

The main decorative item in the room is a Freddie Baer print, bought at auction a few years ago. It's a rarity, because instead of being on paper, she silkscreened it on blue vinyl! It's held up with magnets against a metal cabinet.

I got seduced into watching "Babe" tonight. I love that movie! The book is also very good. The author has several other books about pigs, too. James Cromwell, the character actor who played Farmer Hoggett, is really coming into his own these days. He was also in "First Contact", the Star Trek movie from last fall, and has a pivotal role in "L.A. Confidential", which I saw the other day. He's completely different in each, which I suppose is what you want in a character actor.

I had a talk with the man who'll be managing me for the next few months. I was a bit nervous going in! He gave me some good advice about finding tasks that will put me on a good career path. I had difficulty answering when he asked me what I wanted to be doing, since I'm not really clear on what there is to do! I've not been in this early in a product cycle before, plus there are things to be done to finish up the current product and help the folks that are adopting it.
