The award of a pure gold medal for poetry would flatter the recipient unduly: no poem ever attains such carat purity.

Yay, Lance!

Monday, October 20, 1997

I am listening to the Cool Site of the Year Awards, via Real Player over the net. This award doesn't have quite the significance this year as it did a year ago. The net has changed too much! But my buddy Lance is up for an award in two categories, personal site and design, so I made the effort to tune it in.

8:20 PM PDT: Damn! Water won for personal site. Maggy's site is great, but Lance is my fave!

8:45 PM PDT: yay! Lance won for the design category! what a guy! Weird to hear his voice for the first time. I hope this validation via net vote pleases him. He really deserves it.

I bought some clothes tonight on the way home. I initially went in to buy some new jeans, which I did buy: two pairs regular blue denim, one pair pale blue denim, one pair black denim. I also got a few tops, made from a rib knit that reminded me of the poorboy tops we wore in 1967. My best find was a black velour dress, just right for dancing! (I think it's really a nightgown, which makes it all the naughtier!)

I don't shop for clothes often, but when I do, I usually buy a bunch of stuff. Especially when they have special prices if you buy two! If I find a style of pants that I like, I buy them in a bunch of colors. I have had two major clothes-buying sessions while visiting my sister in Delaware. That was fun, because I could stay in the dressing room while she acted as my personal shopper, running back and forth to get different sizes or colors. Each time I bought several hundred dollars' worth. I've realized that it's okay for me to buy things that aren't the cheapest, if I like them. My cost per wearing is very low!

Remaining wardrobe needs: new bras and new shoes.
