Western Swing

I wouldn't say when you've seen one Western you've seen the lot; but when you've seen the lot you get the feeling you've seen one.

Today at work I went live with a redesigned internal website for my team. I didn't really do the design, I just copied from our overall team website, because we'll be fitting into a frameset on that site as well, so it seemed best to just coordinate with them. The only thing I don't like about said larger website is the use of fixed point sizes for the stylesheet, which takes some flexibility away from the user.

The dance tonight at the Century Ballroom featured the Hank Williams Revue, a band that features the music of Hank Williams. There was a smaller group than usual for the class beforehand, so I agreed to try leading. I was to regret this later, since it meant I didn't get a chance to practice the follow's part for the new stuff that was taught, and there was material there that was new to me. I've never done the two-step, and the country-style waltz was also new.

There were a few classmates there, as well as other folks. Jo "Ranch Romance" Miller was a guest artist with the band, and even if I didn't get to dance as much as I would like, her singing was worth hearing. The only drawback to the evening was that this was the first Friday dance where alcohol was served, and some friends of the opening band got rather loud. I wonder if changing the music type for each Friday dance means that people don't get into the habit of coming to the hall? One Friday is Latin, the next is swing, the next is Zydeco, then something else. The people that prefer each of these aren't necessarily the same group!
