Commuter -- one who spends his life |
Tuesday, November 18, 1997
I was thinking as I was driving home this afternoon (and isn't commuting a perennial topic for journalers?) that a worthy painting project would be a series of landscapes about the 520 bridge that connects Seattle and the East Side, like Hiroshige's "53 Stations on the Tokaido Road". The sky, the mountains in the distance in both directions, Mt. Rainier to the south, the water and hills, all combine to make pleasing, varying pictures. I have done a little watercolor painting, but still rank as a beginner. Another activity to take up again!
I got email from my contracting agency today, reminding me that my present assignment ends in early December. Since my nominal manager is still on leave, I forwarded the mail to my current manager and asked him to extend me if they want me to stay around. He responded gratifyingly quickly via mail, and even poked his head through the red velvet curtains into the contractor bay to tell me in person that he was working on it.

Tonight was our monthly planning meeting for the Seattle Cacophony Society. I'll be doing the newsletter for December, so I wrote down the events we came up with. We got very good placement for the Bob Dylan Holiday Choir on Seattle Sidewalk. They even listed us on their Holiday roundup page, which is much better than just being listed in their database. I'd say very few people have come to an event because they saw it on Sidewalk, but any way that people hear about us is good.
The meeting was fun! It takes us a while to get going, but we eventually warmed up to some good brainstorming. A new member, Thaddeus, said he knows someone who owns a catapult! That would be a great resource for us.
