As you see yourself, I once saw myself; as you see me now, you will be seen. |

I forgot to say yesterday that my former officemate Kris very kindly took me to the company store yesterday. Contractors can't buy software there, but regular employees can. I needed to get a working copy of Publisher (all I had was a trial version that came with Office 97) so that I can do the next month's version of Machination, the newsletter for the Seattle Cacophony Society. We take turns in the group on producing the paper version, though I always HTML-ize it for the site. I also got the next version of Image Composer (through purchasing Front Page, which I won't use) and some software for my nephews, the Doring Kindersly Nature program and My Personal Tutor from Microsoft. Kris said that he might get a copy of My Personal Tutor, which I couldn't quite understand. It's intended for four- to seven-year-olds!

Because there was no dance class for me tonight, I was able to organize a little group outing to the Century Ballroom. I posted to the singles events public folder at work, and also invited Kate and Glenn and a few other friends. The Thai restaurant I had originally picked out was closed due to a fire, but luckily I found out a few days before and switched to another place, La Puerta, a Mexican restaurant.
My friend Joan was at the restauant before me, then Kate and Glenn (he used to bowl with me) and Christina, who was a surprise. Joan and Christina are in the Microsoft Bookclub with me. We were waiting for one more person, Clayton, who called us twice from his car phone to let us know he was on his way. I went ahead and ordered for him, with his permission. The food was good! I had pork with a mild chile verde sauce. When Clayton arrived, he was jokingly shocked to find that Kate and Glenn were married, since he thought it was an all-singles event. Kate started to take her wedding rings off, but it felt too strange for her.
After dinner we walked the block to the Ballroom. We were early enough to have dessert in the café; I had my usual strawberry lemonade. I think we all got enough dancing, especially Glenn, since he danced with Kate and with me. Christina, Joan and I all danced with a man in a pale blue shirt who was very skilled indeed! Joan danced with one guy who I've danced with before, and she really made him look good, the best I've ever seen him! I usually have had difficulty following him.
Clayton was funny! He had signed up for a few Arthur Murray lessons for some charity deal, and rather than spend them on one dance, he had insisted they teach him waltz, fox-trot, swing, etc. So he said he knew how to swing dance, but then couldn't remember which pattern that was! It took him a while to get going, but he did make some progress. At the midpoint of the dance they had a group lesson, mostly going over the Charleston part of the Lindy. This was good, since that's what we covered in class last week and I needed the drill! Kate very kindly said that she could feel the improvement in Glenn's dancing each time after he danced with me, and he put up with my amateurish instruction efforts. A fun evening!
