Dylan Carols

In the dime stores and bus stations,
People talk of situations,
Read books, repeat quotations,
Draw conclusions on the wall.
-- Bob Dylan

Today was the Bob Dylan Holiday Choir, a "perennial favorite" Seattle holiday event, according to Seattle Sidewalk!

This is the fourth or fifth time we have done this event. We assemble at the Westlake Center downtown with lyric sheets that include traditional Christmas carols to be sung while imitating Bob Dylan's voice, and other carols that happen to fit with Bob Dylan tunes. We also do some Dylan lyrics that fit with Christmas melodies.

It was raining when I set off downtown, so I stopped at the Bon Marché and bought a new umbrella and bright red knit gloves. Our core group of cacophonistas was there, plus some new folks and people who just happened by and wanted to sing with us. We had a large enough group that no one was self conscious about their singing voice, and how could they be when imitating BD? I especially enjoyed our version of The Twelve Days of Christmas: "On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, a leopard-skin pill-box hat!"

When we had sung enough, we went across the street to a food court. Tobin showed us the new book from Penn and Teller. Adam introduced us to a new taste treat: mixing peppermint patties and malted milk balls, in the correct proportions (nibble on the peppermint patty and crunch on a couple of milk balls) is a very yummy combo!

I went over to Eileen's house and got the straight dope about the Clarion West web site. I've been very late on getting this info, but now I'll be able to get the site revamped. When I get it done, I'll link it here.

Another journaler was talking on the diary-l list about having one day when we diarists could rank on each other, no holds barred.

> We'll all be really
>really mean, just for fun, and then leave it drop.
>No responses allowed!
>

And I responded (and put it here to get double duty out of it):

Aye, there's the rub! folks just wouldn't leave it drop. like we don't have enough feuds already!

I do find it fun to exchange opinions with buddies in private email.

Or if someone ranks on someone else, and I agree, I'll say so in mail, or if I think they've been too tough on someone, I'll try to present counter-evidence.

But I usually don't get exercised enough about another journal, no matter how vile or inane, to devote my own prose to it.

I do like it when Al writes about another journal that he likes, or Renee gives the journal news as she sees it, or when Gus starts yanking someone's chain.

Hey! maybe someone's been satirizing me, and I'm oblivious to it!
