Holiday Feasting

Let the stoics say what they please, we do not eat for the good of living, but because the meat is savory and the appetite is keen.
--Ralph Waldo Emerson

I had lunch today with D---, who contacted me from my yahoo personal ad. He seemed like a fine man. Unfortunately, he isn't really single yet. We'll see what happens when he gets his life straightened out. Flattering that he was so impressed by my ad that he couldn't wait to contact me!

The lunch was great! Marriot, who contracts the food service at Microsoft, runs a contest every year where people can submit their favorite holiday recipes. Then they actually prepare the winning recipies in each category. Some years foods have won that, while good on their own, didn't really go together. This year we had a delicious roast pork, a very good salad with a cranberry vinaigrette, good (rich!) vegetables, Italian sausage and apple stuffing, and the grand prize winner, chocolate Kahlua cake. Yum!

I went this evening to see Alien Resurrection. I liked it OK, and Sigourney rocked! I do tend to cover my eyes during some of the especially nasty parts. I wish Brad Dourif had had longer screen time! He has an amazing creepy-yet-moving quality. You might remember him from Voyager, and he has been on Millenium also.

Wally has convinced me to participate in his in-Santa-cide deal, which will probably happen this Sunday. So I stopped at Fabricland after the movie, to get costume materials. They were sold out of Santa hats! So I'll have to find one Friday night or Saturday afternoon. Saturday will also be taken up with a lot of Solstice Feast work, and I have to prepare food for homeless folks! Yikes!
