The moment one accosts a stranger or is accosted by him is above all in this life the moment of drama....Whoever we meet watches us intently at the quick, strange moment of meeting, to see whether we are disposed to be friendly. |

Friday evening I went on another blind date. J---- and I both agreed that we shouldn't have waited the week or so that we did for a face-to-face meeting, after actually deciding to meet. That was too much time for nervousness to develop! But things were fine as soon as we actually did meet.
We went to dinner at the New Saigon restaurant. I really like the chicken chow fun there; I used to get those wide rice noodles when we would order in food while I worked on the gardening CD-ROM project. Jon Singer always got this made a special way, with black bean sauce, but I just ordered it the regular way.
From there, we drove to Capitol Hill and walked down to the Century Ballroom. I give J---- incredible credit for trying something new! He likes swing music and jazz, but he hadn't ever done this kind of dancing before. We did some easy lindy steps during the pre-dance class. J--- also got his first experience dancing with a guy during this class, since we rotate partners during the lesson. I taught him the basics of East Coast triple-time swing during the slow- or medium-tempo numbers during the dance, and by the end of the evening he was doing fine!
We had heard that the kids from Stomp might show up after their performance, so we stayed a bit later than we might have otherwise. Sure enough, they did drop by. One of them did a great improvised tap dance, all over the floor. What a treat!

I spent a good chunk of the weekend reviewing this journal, because I am doing a print version and wanted to find the best parts to include. The problem is, I am far too fond of my own stuff! I know I'll need to do some serious paring-down. Michael Rawdon is also contributing a piece, and Shelly wrote a bit that I'll include if she gives permission. I also marked up and posted Rebecca Haines' In-Santa-Cide report.

When I get mail on my yahoo account, I send myself a copy of the page, then I answer the mail and/or delete it. Then I get peeved if I check a few hours later and see no messages! Even though I was the one who did the deleting! I do get amused at myself sometimes.
