Early in the morning, at break of day, in all the freshness and dawn of one's strength, to read a book -- I call that vicious! |

I spent my first day after my trip to Oakland getting started on my conreport. I have more pictures than I want to put into those journal entries, so I think I'll create a photo album page on one of those awful free sites. I have gotten some requests for my printed zine of Anita's Book of Days, but do go ahead and send me your snail address if you would like one.
I got some bad news on Monday; my manager, who I liked so much and who was a fan of mine, is leaving Microsoft. She'd been on leave for the past three months, and decided to go do other things. This isn't too surprising, since she's been at MS for eleven years, but she'll be missed! She'll be putzing around and taking care of family stuff for a while, but if she gets a startup going, maybe she'll have a place for me.
On Monday evening, the MS Bookclub meeting was scheduled. I hadn't read the book (and in the course of reviewing this journal for my print zine, I was mortified to see how often I hadn't finished or even started our assigned book) but I was the one who was supposed to present books for us to choose from to discuss at a future meeting. So I really had to go.
We met at Karma Cafe, an nice inexpensive Indian restaurant in Redmond. But it turned out that only Christina and I made it! So we really couldn't discuss the book at all. We'll probably carry it over to next month. That way I'll have a chance to redeem myself and read the book, and we can get more people to the next meeting. I gave Christina a copy of my print zine, and was amused to see her immediately do the traditional egoscan, looking for mentions of herself.

We had a few new faces at the Cacophony meeting tonight, but they were so shy that they sat at an adjacent table for quite a while without making themselves known to us! We discussed what we should do next month, and the RC art car event this Saturday. Tom Lawrence ate two brownie sundaes! But we helped him a bit on the second one.
