Odds and Ends

There is one thing that matters -- to set a chime of words tinkling in the minds of a few fastidious people.

I got a few question in email today, that made me think I was too obscure in yesterday's entry. When I talked about "BJ-gate," that was short for "blowjobgate." When I used the term MEGO, that's an acronym for My Eyes Glaze Over. I hope that clears up any confusion.

Let me say, in case you were suffering under a misapprehension, that I love to get mail from readers! It's a rare online journaler that doesn't enjoy that. And it isn't too late to request a printed copy of Anita's BOD, printed version, Issue 1.

Yesterday I took the character test that Renee pointed out. I was again confirmed as an INFJ. Maybe I'm test-wise, and give the answers that I know will make the result turn out as I expect? I agree with most of the profile, except where it attributes psychic powers to me!

Today in the singles public folder (like an internal newsgroup) they were discussing the difficulty that men and women have in getting together at Microsoft. The topic of the nerdiness of the guys came up. Then one guy mentioned nerd girls, like that was a bad thing! So I posted links to Ceej's webcam page, to Jennifer Wade's page, and to my internal web site. So there!

It's time to start thinking about next month's design for this site. There's a page on the Microsoft typography site that is a great list of links for fonts, free, weird or otherwise, and I was amusing myself with looking at some strange ones at work today. I was awed by the incredible abundance of Mr. Larabie's fonts!

Mr. Grinder was ranting yesterday about British folk music, and expressing his preference for the more authentic American type as collected in the thirties and forties by the Library of Congress. I feel that we need folk music that reflects our lives today! My brother-in-law is in an Irish band, and I'm amused sometimes by a social worker, a health care administrator, and a nurse, singing all about whaling or going down the mine. We need songs about the copier being broken, or forgetting to make a deposit at the ATM! Songs that reflect our modern dilemmas!

Monday is the day for our program manager team meeting. This day I was surprised when my boss brought his laptop into the conference room and hooked it up. Turned out we were going to go over the team website (my site!) and see where each feature team was. I had provided template pages for each feature team at the beginning of December, and I'm glad I did! This put the task of filling in the details for each team where it should be, on the program manager for that particular team. There are a few areas that don't fit in any existing team, but need to be pointed to, so we thrashed around how that should be handled. So even though the focus was so unexpectedly on my work, I felt fine about it.

My nephew J---'s birthday is coming up this week. He'll be seven! It really doesn't seem possible. He and his brother really like the Tap Dogs video I gave them for Christmas. But I don't know what I'll buy him for a present.

I was talking to Jason this evening, firming up plans for the next time we'll be getting together, then chatting idly. It's still a mite awkward talking on the phone with him; we haven't done it that many times. This seems to perturb him more than it does me. When he designated the breaks in our dialog as "awkward pauses," I told him to think of them as "comfortable silences." It's all in what you call things. Naming has power!

Jason has some "issues" with coming along to the birthday dinner on Friday, which I can understand. It could be rather stressful to attend a family celebration on the third date. So I'll probably pick him up at work, drive to my place and drop him off, go to my sister's house for dinner, then go back and he and I'll go see a movie or something. This has but one drawback -- it means that tomorrow evening my cleaning campaign continues, into the areas of my place that weren't handled last week.
