I am, in point of fact, a particularly haughty and exclusive person, of pre-Adamite ancestral descent. You will understand this when I tell you that I can trace my ancestry back to a protoplasmal primordial atomic globule.

Ceej said yesterday, "How much music succeeds in making you feel something other than what you feel already?"

I was already planning on talking about what I was listening to at work. (I don't plan to make this a regular feature; it's just a coincidence that I mention it two days in a row.) I listened, over and over, to Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance. It was performed by the Welsh National Opera, conducted by Sir Charles MacKerras. You can listen to bits of it over the web, from Telarc!

Pirates is my favorite G&S opera, maybe because I have a fondness for Kevin Kline as the Pirate King. Song follows song, as cheerful and lively as one could ask for. Listening to happy music or reading humorous novels is a strategy I consciously follow to break a dark mood. Other times I might choose to sit down and have a good weep (like Holly Hunter in Broadcast News?) if I feel that I need it. But that's not the best thing to do at the office!

Listening to Pirates did the trick for me today. I went from feeling rather spiky to feeling fine.

After work I drove north to the Costume and Display Supply store. I wanted to get some things we'll need for the shadow puppet play that Cacophony will be putting on this Saturday. I was able to get cardboard silhouettes (that's tough to spell!) of a few of the characters we will need. The rest we will have to draw and cut out ourselves. My only concern for this event is having enough folks to put it on! Some of our regular crew won't be available, and it takes people to work the puppets, and other people to read the lines.

This play is one of the best things that we've ever done in Cacophony. It was written as a collaborative effort, but some of the best parts came from the mind of Yasha. He's a valuable resource for us!

I worked last night on formatting a rant on fat acceptance issues. This is something I wrote back in September, but I didn't post it as a web page because I didn't have permission from an author that I quoted within the rant. So last night I contacted Siobhan Perricone, and she said it was fine to use her stuff! So take a look at Anita's Attractiveness Rant.

Tonight I finally got the Clarion West website updated. This should have been done long ago! But now that I've got it up to date, I will keep it maintained, I swear! This site gives information about a workshop for science fiction and fantasy writers. In a way, this comes full circle: I put up the info that they had in a flier, in 1995, on my personal site. Then the group got their own web space, and someone else did the site. Now it's back to me!

My other project tonight was a bit of rubber stamp art. It's been too long since I did this! I'm happy with how it turned out. Perfectly appropriate to what I want to use it for. I had to make two trips out to my car to get the stamps and materials that I needed, but it was worth it.
