Support

Friendship is one of the most tangible things in a world which offers fewer and fewer supports.

My attractivness rant succeeded in drawing another reader out of the woodwork. Miriam from Portland identified herself to me, and after drawing a blank for a few minutes I remembered her from Potlatch! Thanks for the good words, Miriam! I also posted the link to the soc.support.fat-acceptance newsgroup. It's so rare that I put up a page that isn't specifically journal related that I feel it needs to be made known!

SSFA is a good newsgroup! The FAQs are really well done, and there are many posters who are smart and thoughtful. The topic is one that does bring out the trolls, but they are easy to ignore. I mostly lurk there, but I do post from time to time.

Tonight was the last night in the series of Lindy Hop classes I've been taking. I want to continue in this series, but I'm not sure if I'll just take the intermediate class, or also repeat the beginning class. I also want to go back and take lessons from the Swing Girls at the Century Ballroom. The intermediate swing class would be good there. Of course, if I can coerce any friends to sign up, I'd probably sign up and be in the same classes with them.

Dancing is really good exercise. The sensation of moving to music is lots of fun, and it's a socially approved way to get close to people! I enjoy swing dancing and lindy in particular because I love the energy of the music. Guys, if you refuse to learn how to dance, you are missing out. Where else could you walk up to a woman, ask to hold her in your arms, and have a good chance of her saying yes?

Here are some images I took at tonight's class and dance:

Cat Daddy Chris, in the hat, is one of our teachers. Zola, in the green dress, and Joe, are both classmates. Floyd, who is dipping his partner, is a dancer who usually shows up after class.

In the first picture, Zola and Joe are demonstrating Tandem Charleston, where the lead dances directly behind the follow. This is what Tom and I were learning last week. But now I know how to get into and out of this step! I also learned how Cat Daddy Chris got those two-toned shoes! He took a regular pair of dress shoes and had them painted!
