Teamwork

Sometimes there's nothing but Sundays for weeks on end. Why can't they move Sunday to the middle of the week so you could put it in the OUT tray on your desk?

Read about me contacting my high school boyfriend on Friday, and having thrilling laundry, dining and dancing adventures on Saturday! I know some folks only read the most recent entry, but you might miss the best stuff that way!

Around noon, my nephew J--- came over to help me with our Radio-Controlled Art Car. But first we walked up the street to Kidd Valley, a local burger place. The woman working at the counter told him he was very cute, which he took with a good grace. We walked back home, ate our food, and sorted out what we needed to do. I discovered that I didn't have the right size of screwdriver to remove the body of the car so we could paint it, so out we went again. We walked up to City Peoples Mercantile, which is also a hardware store. J-- carried the car, so I could be sure to get the right size. I also bought the batteries we will need to make the car run.

We walked back home and I detached the body from the car. We took turns sanding the smooth plastic, so the paint will have a chance to stick. Then we took the car body outside and painted it with cool funky faux-stone paint. Somehow they make it come out from the spray can in three or more different colored speckles at once! A modern miracle of technology!

While we were waiting for the first coat of paint to dry, we HTML-ized and posted the event report J--- had written, about the Easter bunny hunt from two weeks ago. Good job, J---!

Then we sprayed another coat of paint on the car. The colorway is called "Wild Strawberry." Most of the other things we want to do to the car will have to wait until Tuesday. So we watched the first side of The Magic Flute, the Ingmar Bergman version. J--- really liked it, so he'll come over soon and watch the whole thing with me.

It's fun working with J--- on projects like this!

This evening I was tired, and needed to reread a book for my bookclub meeting tomorrow. But I also wanted to dance!

So I read several chapters, and will read more later. But then I went downtown to the Showbox, for the second edition of Zoot Suit Sunday. For all that parking is supposed to be easy to find on Sunday evening, I ended up several blocks away. I arrived late enough that I didn't participate in the lesson.

There were a reasonable number of people there, but the fact that there wasn't a band kept the crowds down. I had a much better time this week than last. All my favorite partners were there! I let Hyper Dan (this is his chosen nickname, not a criticism) play with my digital camera so that he'll be able to use it on his proposed Seattle Lindy website.

I did dance with a few new guys, which I usually try to do. One was a rank beginner, with two swing lessons under his belt. He really had no clue at all! But had a good attitude about it. The other guy is an experienced swing dancer, but I think he might come from a ballroom background. He did several steps that were entirely unfamiliar to me. The evening's only drawback was the dj playing too high a percentage of fast tempo songs. His collection of records has been developed for the rockabilly evenings the club has on Wednesdays, not for the combination of East Coast swing and lindy that we like to do.

When it was time to go, I got Hyper Dan to walk me to my car, and listened to his plans for a digital video camera and wishes for a better HTML editor.

Anyway, I had a blast tonight!
