Thursday, April 30, 1998 I found a very funny article about being addicted to swing! This really does reflect my experiences, though fortunately I haven't been laid off from my job as the author has. I can tell that I'll need some light-weight cotton dresses for dancing during the warm weather. Tonight's dance class was warm and damp! I walked down the street to the deli afterwards, to eat ice cream and exchange personal news with my friend Jon Newman. It's fun comparing notes on the dating scene, and we are both full-series pass holders at the Seattle International Film Festival, which starts in a few weeks. From there I went over to Jayson's house. He had originally been planning on being part of the Cacophony activities tonight, but more important family obligations interposed. XE is about to have a baby, and will go to the hospital tomorrow morning for tests. So I stopped off at his place to get the art car he's been working on.
So tonight was the night we were set to appear on Wally Glenn's cable access TV show, Don't Quote me on This. He had wanted to have Cacophony members and their cars on his live half-hour talk show, to talk about the event we were planning for this Sunday. Of course, due to my N.P.S., I was at the studio in the North End before Wally was! So I waited in the lobby, and watched the show that was playing. Tom Lawrence and Nick Fraser arrived before the hosts also, bringing their art cars with them. Tom was nervous about being on TV! We ended up seated on a couch next to the desk that Wally and David sat behind. I felt that unfamiliar/familiar feeling that I had experienced at Wally's wine and cheese party. I have watched the show so often that it didn't seem strange to really be there. I think the show went smoothly, and we had little trouble filling the time. We talked about art cars and cacophony. I felt like I was in the zone, as I did when I emceed a game show at Potlatch. I'm looking forward to watching the tape, though I'll confess to some qualms about seeing myself on camera and hearing my voice. I'm used to seeing pictures of myself now, but on this site I can choose the shots that I post. Voice and video are a different matter. It will be interesting to see if anyone shows up at the event because of the show!
