WAR ZONE

I woke up feeling a bit fragile this morning, so I stayed home from work. I used the time to get started on my June graphics. I like how they look so far!
I walked down to the five pm show at the Broadway Performance Hall, and saw Dan "Hyper Dan" Osborne of Lindyhype fame on his way out of the press screening. (Full series pass holders can attend press screenings, though I haven't ever taken advantage of this, that I recall.) He gave me a big hug, which was nice. He told me he was taking his laptop to the movies with him, so he can do a write-up directly after every show! Very clever! He tempted me to skip the last movie of the evening and go to the Century Ballroom as I would normally do on Wednesday night. I resisted this suggestion, since I'm in movie-going mode, and still feeling a bit fragile. Maybe next week!
Dear Jesse
A documentary by North Carolina native Tim Kirkman, about fellow North Carolinian Senator Jesse Helms. More focus on Kirkman revisiting his home state after living in New York for several years, meeting people like the founding members of MAJIC (Mothers Against Jesse In Congress! cool acronym!) and the first openly gay mayor in North Carolina, than on the evil Senator. Watchable, but Kirkman is preaching to the choir more than examining any issues in depth.
War Zone
Another documentary, but much more intense! Maggie Hadleigh-West took a camera with her on the street. When men spoke to her, or whistled, or leered, she turned the camera on them and interviewed them about it. Amazing stuff! This was one that A---- and my festival friends had talked about quite a bit in the past few days. See it if you can!
Love Tangles
A French sex comedy, with a few twists. I laughed and enjoyed it. The strongest audience reaction was heard when the leading lady finally took off her dress. There were gasps of admiration at the beauty of -- the fancy bra and panties set she was wearing! These were truly lovely, finely made of cafe-au-lait lace.
