One year ago: A Tool-using Animal
A preview version of the product I work on went live on the web today. IE5 has some cool new features! If you are a web developer, you should install this version, on a test machine. (No, it can't live on the same partition as IE4. Sorry!)
I had to take a midday excursion to pay my phone bill. Gee, what lameness on my part! Actually putting things in the mail is obviously something that I don't do easily, though I have the money. The customer service rep offered to send info on automatic bill payments, an idea that would be very handy for me. I drove down the road to a local video store that accepts payments on behalf of the phone company. Unfortunately, they'll only take the money when the store owner is present. I had to go back to work, my mission unaccomplished. I made a second stop on the way back to Seattle, this time successfully. The store owner was surprised that so many folks from Seattle pay their phone bills on the east side, but I mentioned that for Microsoft folks, her store would be the most convenient location.
Thank God He Met Lizzie
An Australian romantic comedy. When Guy is getting married to Lizzie, thoughts of Jenny, a former lover, come rushing back. We spend more time examining this earlier romance via flashback than we do the one happening "now," so it's not surprising that I felt he should have gotten back together with Jenny. I feel the same phenomenon when I see Mozart's opera Cosi fan tutte: the couples are switched during the time we see them, so it feels wrong if they go back to their original partners at the end. The movie had a lot of humor, too! I'd say, see it if you get a chance.
I only saw this one movie tonight. I think I'm reaching the limits of my stamina. I went home and did catch-up on email and journals, and reposed myself generally. It was so great spending the proverbial quiet evening at home.
