Cacophony Meeting

Driving is a spectacular form of amnesia. Everything is to be discovered, everything to be obliterated.

I walked to the service station to pick up my car this morning. I was all set to pay the bill, but they hadn't filled it out, because there was a possibility of a discount if I could find the receipt from the water pump replacement they had performed last August. I didn't find it in the glove compartment, but the guy working didn't know what to charge me! So he let me take the car anyway. Those guys are so nice! So I stopped by when I got home and paid then.

I was really glad to have my car back. I'll admit, I was keeping a close eye on the temp gauge all the way to work.

At work I dug down steadily, reformatting a huge Word document into several HTML files, and making it look like the rest of the specs on our server. I'm a fan of consistency! All the while, I was listening to a double CD called The American Opera Singer. It features recordings from 1905 till the present day. It's amazing to me how early the sound quality becomes a pleasure to listen to! Rosa Ponselle, in 1928, sounds just great.

We had our monthly planning meeting for the Seattle Cacophony Society tonight, at the Beyond the Edge Cafe. They've managed to stay in business for quite a while, unlike the two establishments we drove out of business by holding our meetings there. I had Nick Fraser and Tom "The Law" Lawrence fill me in on the recent events that I missed because of the Film Festival.

Apparently Mondo Croquet went well, with our old buddy "Ashleigh" showing up to teach the real English rules. The "Mondo" part of the event means that they played with bowling balls and sledge hammers, rather than the normal equipment. When we did this last year, only one bowling ball got smashed, and they had to make special efforts to do it! But this time several balls broke in the normal course of play.

There was a planning meeting for our participation in the Fremont Solstice Parade, which I also missed. I don't know if Nick will ever get over the silly string that Wally sprayed on him. For the first time, we will have two contingents in the parade!

Jayson showed up next, then Jerod, then several new folks (Paul and Mark), then good dog Carl! I was really pleased to see XE and the new baby, since I hadn't seen the baby yet. She's named Maven, except that isn't the right spelling. It should be more Gaelic-style. Maven is very cute and alert at four weeks old.

Next month I'll sponsor the dance and art car events again, because I want to make them ongoing. Regular occurences have a chance at building up a following, I think!
