There often seems to be a playfulness to wise people, as if either their equanimity has as its source this playfulness or the playfulness flows from the equanimity; and they can persuade other people who are in a state of agitation to calm down and manage a smile. |

It's true what they say; physical exercise can improve your mood! I was feeling rather blue today, even weepy, but felt much better after dancing at the Russian Center.
B--- is a man who contacted me from an online personal ad I have. He's a retired military man, and drives a truck these days. We exchanged email for a few days, and decided to meet for dinner yesterday. I picked the place, so I returned to my old favorite, the New Saigon. We shared a good dinner. He seemed like a smart, nice guy, and he showed a flattering degree of enthusiasm about seeing me again.
"A good kisser." Maybe this is the polite thing to say when you kiss someone, and want to kiss them again sometime in the future? B--- isn't the first one to say this to me, but I don't think I've kissed enough people in my lifetime to be an objective judge. Or is it the kind of thing where if you meet the minimum bar, your performance is good?
Anyway, I thought about it all this morning, and decided that B--- and I weren't a good match. I hadn't been offended or alarmed by anything he had done or said, and I think he'd be a great guy for someone else. He accepted my decision graciously. This was the first time I've actually had to tell someone that. I don't know if my depressed mood today was because of that, or because I'm coming down with a cold.
Or was I down because this reminded me of situations where I've been the eager one?

So I did go dancing at the Russian Center.
I'd been to the Century Ballroom yesterday evening, so this wasn't my first dance activity since the film festival. The Century last night hosted a CD release party for New York Jimmy and the Jive Five, so it was extra hot and crowded, and filled with people who really didn't know how to dance. I had a good time, but tonight was better.
The Russian Center was just extra fun! The weather was cooler, so the hall didn't get as hot. A lot of my favorite partners were there, and some folks actually asked me to dance. Gratifying! That's one reason to dance with beginning dancers; they'll be grateful and ask you to dance forever after. I just felt like I was in the groove; one of those peak "flow" experiences. Adapting to different partners is part of the fun of dancing for me; each lead (not always a guy) had zir own way of moving to the music and I like to match it.
So I was really glad I went!
