Given that external reality is a fiction, the writer's role is almost superfluous. He does not need to invent the fiction because it is already there. |

One year ago: Shake, Rattle and Roll
Today I wore a dress made of a green and brown rayon, crinkled and vertically streaked. It was princess seamed (flattering) and had long sleeves, so I got to try out the sleeve doo-dads I bought on Sunday. They worked very well! And I like the irregular shape and dark irridescence of the raku-fired beads. I'm not much of a one for wearing necklaces, but I do like earrings and hair ornaments, and these gadgets fit in that category. The only drawback to the dress: no pockets! So I spent the day with my card-key inelegantly clipped to the front of my dress.
This evening was the first in the Clarion West reading series for this summmer. I timed it so close on leaving my house that I had to sprint about a block for the bus, but I made it. There was a Mariners home game at the baseball stadium near the book store, so I was glad I had decided on the public transport option.
Jane Hawkins was in the room where the reading was to take place (she helps by cashiering during the readings), so I got some food and chatted with her. We exchanged views on the parade, where she helped as a safety monitor.
Paul Park was the first week's instructor for Clarion West, and was going to give a public reading. I always want to read things by the Clarion teachers before they arrive, but I don't always get around to it. I hadn't read Park, but I really liked what I heard tonight. Kafka-esque stories, and one, called "Get a Grip," based on the same concept as The Truman Show (but written beforehand). Now I want to get his books!

Marcio Caparica Carlos very kindly gave me this award because I offered him a more idiomatic phrase than one he used the other night. Being a netnag has its benefits! I'd link to the specific entry I helped with, but Marcio already went back and changed it.
