Designing

Style is not something applied. It is something that permeates. It is of the nature of that in which it is found, whether the poem, the manner of a god, the bearing of a man. It is not a dress.

One year ago: Quick, Strange Moment of Meeting

A year since I met Ceej and Javina and Andrew and Orson. Insert cliche about how the time goes so fast. There's a reason why cliches are born. Truisms become truisms because they are true!

At work, I'm developing several different designs for a huge IE5 demo. I'll be working with a summer intern. I'll be creating the CSS and graphics and look of the demo site and the various other items that are part of the project, and he'll work on the scripting and backend. I did several looks, using the Core Styles from the W3C as a basis. If this ever makes it to the external web, I'll be sure and give a pointer!

I was supposed to meet someone for coffee this evening, but he had to cancel at the last minute. So I used the time to work on journal critiques for diary-crit-l (I am shamefully low on my quota!) and massage and resize the pictures I took at the parade last Saturday.

I sent mail today to the swing-seattle-chat list, asking whether Friday or Saturday would be the best night to go dance at the Century Ballroom. There's a new band, called Eddie Reed. Then I remembered that I actually do have something to do on Friday evening! There are parties every Friday during the Clarion West writers workshop, so the students can have fun and to say goodby to that week's instructor. The first of these parties is this Friday, so that's where I'll be unless circumstances intervene.

I had a good time at the dance tonight, but I was at a disadvantage because I couldn't find my dance shoes! I know I brought them home from the fair on Sunday, but I don't know where I put the bag! It must have made it into my apartment (rather than me leaving it on the bus or something) because I have the sleeve clips I bought that day. The substitute shoes I brought I found very uncomfortable, so I switched back to my black leather keds as the best choice in a bad situation.

Between the shoe situation and a slight lead shortage, I sat out a few more dances than I'd have liked to, but I did have a good time chatting with Nancy and Joe Ross. I got some of the straight scoop about their Catalina experiences, and we gossiped about the people on the dance floor.
