One year ago: The Ringing Grooves of Change
Journals end, new journals begin. Darren Holloway, one of the earliest online journal writers, has stopped his Lifelog. This makes official what was already an observed fact, that he really wasn't into writing it anymore. Oh, well, he and I still have dancing in common! An interesting coincidence that I was talking a year ago about my discomfort with the way pages on the web can just disappear with no warning. But Darren will leave up what he has already written, I'm sure, though it isn't easy to find all the parts. He needs to repair the table of contents page, now that the journal is complete.
Jason, my former boyfriend (see January, February and the beginning of March of this year to read about when we were dating), is officially turning his Rantings page into a web journal. He intended to do this from the time he created the page, but wanted to surprise me. So go read his stuff, and send him comments!

Tonight was the first of our Cacophony dance workshops for this year. I had such a good time at these last year that I wanted to make sure we continued, even though Jayson now has life circumstances (different job, new baby) that make it difficult for him to sponsor. So I volunteered to teach beginning swing, which ties in very neatly to the swing revival that's so big right now. Though Kate once said I have teaching genes, I'm not setting myself up as a swing dance expert. But I have been taking lessons since last fall, and it would be something different for us to learn, so...
I arrived at Gasworks Park early, since I was sponsoring the event and wanted to make sure everything was OK. I enjoyed the quiet as I sat on one of the tables in the shelter and read a book. Soon folks started to arrive. There were many new faces, some of them from the Seattle Webgrrls, a networking group for women in the internet industry that I belong to. We shared a picnic before the dance lesson. I brought two of my favorites to share: pepper salami and Rainier cherries.
There were about thirty people taking the lesson. I was really in the zone, channeling all the dance instructors I've been studying with since last fall. I taught the basic step, the inside turn, and the outside turn, all part of East Coast Swing. People did very well, even folks like Nick that have had trouble before! Then we let the music play, and folks just danced.
What a fun evening! I'm making this a regular monthly event for as long as the weather holds.
