Fever Dreams

If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time.

One year ago: Nerves Sit Ceremonious

Rather than sweat and swelter at home on Tuesday, I decided to take what Dilbert calls an "in-cube sabbatical." Too bad I don't have a real cube! If I did, I'd just lie down on the floor and snooze. Instead, I worked for two hours, then spent the rest of the day reposing myself on a couch in a near-by conference area, coming back to my desk periodically to check my email.

I stopped at the University Village shopping center and bought floppy disks (to take the pictures you see here), ice, a fruit plate and caramel dip, and a sandwich for my dinner. Of course, I was early arriving at Gasworks Park, so I read a book and rested.

I knew this going in, but I want to stick to a consistent day for the event, and always have it on the last Tuesday of the month. The people that did show up were last-minute deciders from work, along with one new face and my old friend Nick. Jon Newman brought a new friend, Judy, and Kirsten and Lou (both from MS) showed up as well. We covered some basic east coast swing steps, but I kept dissolving into coughing fits, unpleasant to me, and alarming to the others.

I stayed home from work today, dragging myself out of bed at around ten o'clock to send mail to work, and walk to the store for supplies. When I came out of the building front door, a neighbor of mine aske me to let her in the building's side door. She told me that the grocery store they'd been rebuilding for so many months was open today! So I revised my plans from going to 7-11 to going to Safeway, and bought a few things I wouldn't have otherwise.

I dosed myself with store-brand nyquil-equivalent at noon, and slept the rest of the day. Those antihistamines really knock me out! They give the day a dreamlike, strange quality.
