One year ago: The Two-Party System
Saturday has tech notes on the new design, a last minute date, and a cross-country journey for Bluejack and I. So don't miss it, you folks who only read the latest entry!

This morning I walked down to Broadway for a prospective Cacophony event, but there was no sign of Jayson at the place we were suppoosed to hold it. I was a bit late, though! So I sat down and waited in the little courtyard between the bank and the bagel place. Nick showed up a few minutes later, but he couldn't remember Jayson's phone number. I gave him a bunch of quarters and sent him off to find the number on the web. Turns out Jayson had been there at ten AM, and had left when no one else showed up soon enough. He was too shy to run the event by himself. Darn!
So I took the bus back up the hill and tottered home again. I am feeling gradually better, though. I don't think it's time to break out the antibiotics yet. I decided to take this opportunity to get my connectivity improved. I don't think my settings were quite right, since sometimes I'd be able to get to, for instance, one web page, and then it would seem to choke and nothing would work. I went to a piece of mail that tech support from my ISP had sent me a few weeks ago, and went through the steps listed. Of course, from then on, nothing worked at all!
So I moved the phone into the bedroom so I'd be able to do things on the PC while talking to tech support, then called them up and waited on hold for forever. Finally they took a message and said they'd call me back.
So it was a lazy afternoon here, reading, catching up on email (but no way to send my replies!) and waiting.

After a telephone chat with my sister B--- in Delaware (she had caught up on my journal and was alarmed by my health reports, but I'm really on the mend, I swear!) I decided to call the ISP back again. This time I got right through and walked through the correct settings with the tech. After a brief wait (it was difficult to wait the full fifteen minutes) things have been lovely ever since. I think part of the problem was that I've had this account so long, that the orginal settings they had weren't for a standard PPP account; they were for some form of CSLIP account that they aren't using anymore. Oh well, enough geekery!

I went to the Century Ballroom tonight, which is where the Zoot Suit Sunday thing that is normally downtown at the Showbox was being held. I'm so glad I did! I had stayed away from dancing for about nine days, and I really missed it! I gave out the last of my first bunch of fans to Zola, Anne and Jennifer. I'll need to go buy some more and continue this project. The first hour while the band was playing was really too crowded for comfort, but I had fun dancing with Earl, Hugh, Mike and a few others. Benjamin is either changing his style of dancing, or feels that there are different boundaries with an old classmate like me. At any rate, I like it! A lot of freezes, grinds and messing around that sometimes take me by surprise, but I wouldn't change it for anything. We are both usually laughing out loud by the end.
I didn't have any coughing fits at the ballroom, but was struck by one on the walk home. I do feel that I'm getting better, though. I swear this isn't some sad self-deception like Violetta in La Traviata.
