A possible new challenge for me at work! Someone left a team that is allied with our team, and they need some help with the things that person was working on. It sounds like just the sort of thing I'm good at: nit-picky details, going down the list and checking things twice, and so on. It doesn't mean leaving my present position, just lending a hand. Could be a big win for me! I'll know more tomorrow.

Well, it turned out that I did get a visitor tonight, after all! I had invited Jack to come over to Seattle and see me. He lives and works on the East side and hadn't yet seen me in my natural environment. He wasn't sure he could arrange it till the last minute (family concerns) but it all worked out and he drove over. I should have given him clearer directions! He ended up having to call me on his cell phone and I guided him in that way.
While I was waiting for Jack to arrive, I completed my clean-up-the-place project (or at least I did what I considered the minimum required). But what I didn't get done was actually get the trash out! I didn't want to leave the apartment while he might be trying to call for guidance, and taking out the trash is an expedition at my place. So he was greeted by the charming sight of six bags of trash right inside my front door! But as I said to him, I've seen his place so I wasn't too worried.
We still had time to walk to the theater, which was pleasant, even though the weather was cloudy and cool. I don't think Jack has spent any time on Capitol Hill, so I pointed out the local landmarks as we passed them, and confused him by zig-zagging through the side streets on our way. We even had time to walk around inside the Broadway Market, and look for earrings for Jack's older daughter.

I had been wanting to see the movie Pi, and Jack was interested, too. It plays with a lot of fannish and geeky themes! Numerolgy, conspiracy theories, migraine headaches (not particularly fannish, I guess). The theme of the special talents of the main character making him a reclusive oddball is almost a cliche, but they carried it off. I recommend it!
We stopped at Twice Sold Tales on our way back up the hill. Jack found two science fiction books he wanted, and I found the Oxford Book of Quotations (third edition). I like the way the index is laid out! It looks like it will be useful for finding quotes for this journal.
Georgina's Pizza was still open, so we dropped in for a few slices. They were getting ready to close, though, so the owner gave us an extra slice each. Score! Then back to my place for some cuddling and chatting. Jack and I do have a lot to talk about. We share science fiction, fandom and webstuff. A very fun evening!
