Art is good when it springs from necessity. This kind of origin is the guarantee of its value; there is no other.

Horsehead Hotcakes

One year ago: Pre-Intentionalist Drawings

This morning we had another of our pancake breakfast Cacophony events, this time called "Horsehead Hotcakes." Although this event was scheduled at the request of Yasha, he was out of town on the day, the weasel!

The group eating breakfast (Link to larger version) I had a bit of difficulty figuring out the ambiguous directions, but eventually I did find the place. Horsehead is a group public art installation that's been happening for ten years, although this is the first time I ever heard about it! This year it was situated at the Sand Point disused naval base, now turned over to the city of Seattle. All the folks were already cooking when I got there, but the pepper-crusted bacon and kiwi-strawberry juice cocktail that I brought were appreciated. Chef Carl (Link to larger version) Carl, Jayson, and Joe all took turns acting as chef at the two camp stoves, but Carl was the only one who brought appropriate attire. He and I always trade dating news, since we've been working on improving our love lives at the same time.

We feasted on pancakes (with and without chocolate chips) and various protein dishes like eggs with garlic chives, the bacon mentioned above, cheddar-flavored lil' smokies, and fruit. We dragged some strangers to the table who just happened to drop by to look at the art, and we took some food to the security guards. Our picnic tables were actually in the middle of an installation! There was a gigantic kite in one of the trees, and the tail, made of rags tied together, was draped from tree to tree, and was incredibly long.

Then it was time to start looking at art!

As I was driving towards home, I suddenly remembered! It was Sunday, so I could go to the Fremont Sunday Market and buy more earrings! I'd been meaning to do this because I'd really liked the three pairs I bought the last time I was there. They've worked out just right for dancing, with just one bead dangling, but I wanted more colors. I had to park quite a distance away! I walked right to where the jewelry person was, selected nine (!) more pairs of earrings, paid and went straight back to my car. Somehow I restrained myself from further shopping.

Speaking of shopping, I forgot to mention all the CDs I bought yesterday! Any that turn out especially good I'll discuss later, on the days I listen to them. But I got quite a number of jazz and swing recordings, and a copy of The Magic Flute.

Joe Ross with tie

Tonight my buddy Joe Ross was having a party! This was partly a birthday party for himself, but he says he gives a party at the end of August every year. He has a pretty pink house on a main drag in West Seattle, decorated with cool retro-recroom decor and original paintings.

We even danced a bit on the back porch, but the space was so small, it was like dancing at the Fenix! I got a picture of Anne and Joe in mid-air, but I should have been using my flash at that point, darn it!

But I was totally amused and amazed by this pair of images of Dan "Hyperdan" Osborn.
