New Building

One year ago: Service Rendered
This was our first day in the new building at work. For me, it's not a new building at all; it's the building I worked in when I started at Microsoft five years ago! Why we moved, I have no idea.
I was planning on doing my second move, to the office I'll be sharing with an off-site worker, in a few days, after the confusion settled down. But the horrible contractor bay where my stuff was moved to had no power running to the wall where all the PCs were, so I decided to go right ahead and move right then. The halls were filled with people wandering around trying to find each other.
The new building is distinctly maze-like, but they smartened up and did some color-coding on each wing, so it didn't take long before I got a sense of where things were. I trundled my two PCs over to the other side of the building. It's so much better to be in a regular office. I wasn't fond of the bay in our old building, but the new ones are far worse because the aisle between desks is narrower. I think it's not legal size!
I still have unpacking and settling in to take care of, but I have work to do that takes precedence. I suppose there is never a good time to move a team, but this wasn't a great time for us. We seem to have recovered nicely, though.

Traffic was so bad this afternoon that it took about an hour and a half, leaving at four thirty, to do a drive that takes half an hour when I leave at four. I ended up going straight to dance class, not stopping at home as I usually do. I danced tonight with a man that I've danced with every night this week, but I didn't get his name. He's an older man, short and heavy. He told me tonight that this was his last night in town; I hadn't realized that he was only visiting from Phoenix. He's a smooth dancer, but he's one of the ones that has a set routine that he follows without varying.
I was pleased to see my friend Jon Newman tonight, since I thought he'd be busy with the Jewish High Holidays.
