Sunday, October 4, 1998 I finally managed to complete my October journal graphics this morning. Once again, I couldn't just sleep as late as I wanted! What sort of weekend is that, I ask you! I did a bit of writing of entries, when I could stop reading other people's journals. It's been quite a while since I've seen Jason, my former boyfriend. I don't think he realized just how long it had been! He had originally been wanting to go see Pi, but he procrastinated a little too long; it's only playing in Tacoma now, and I really didn't want to drive down there! He still did want to get out of the house this afternoon, though. He's got two friends staying with him that he knew from St. Louis, and his apartment, while it's a good-sized one bedroom, is very tight quarters for three people. So I had a couple of movie options picked out (I printed out pages from sidewalk.com, since I figured he wouldn't have the Sunday paper there), and I drove out to the Overlake neighborhood where he lives. I said hello to Jason's two houseguests, and we were off. It was so good to see him! I got to hear a lot of details about his renewed love for Steph, and I filled him in on what's been happening to me lately. We communicate by email, and he tells a lot in his journal, but some things are better face to face. The movie I proposed was called Clockwatchers. It's about office temp workers, and since both Jason and I are contractors, I thought it was a very appropriate choice! We had some time before it started, so I drove back to my neighborhood on Capitol Hill and we walked down to Broadway. Since we hadn't eaten yet, we stopped at Pasta Ya Gotcha and had what else? pasta. This restaurant also serves in one of the Microsoft cafeterias, but there is always such a line that I never get that menu option! So it was interesting to see what they serve. From there, we strolled up and down on Broadway. Jason said several times, "I have got to get over here more often!" He likes the variety of people-watching possibilities in my neighborhood. We made stops at Body Scent, a Himalayan incense shop, and a African gift store with a going out of business sale going on, but miraculously I was able to avoid buying anything. I really am currently well stocked with soaps, candles, and scented oils, and I'm not fond of incense. Jason bought several items, including a small wooden box to hold incense cones. Do you ever have the problem of incense cones not wanting to stay lit? Apparently they get a bit moist in the plastic bags they come in; leave them in a dry wooden box, and they will burn much better, according to Jason's informant. The movie was very good, though it dragged a bit at the end. Toni Collette is the lead. I really like her face! It's very ambiguous and changeable. The story is about four office temps and their struggles against a soul-deadening beaureaucracy. There aren't any easy answers given! It isn't a laugh riot, but I think it's worth seeing. We walked back up the hill to my place, and watched my new cable TV, and chatted. I had no idea that Steph, Jason's current love, is really worried about stuff between Jason and I. This surprised me, since he broke up with me before they got back together, and he seems much more serious about her than he ever was about me. She feels more strongly about me than some of his other involvements. Puzzling! It's probably too bad that she didn't get to meet me during her two visits here, since a known quantity would seem less threatening. Maybe she'll settle down when she actually moves out here in December. My recommendation -- which I recommend for everything: bring her to Vanguard! So I took Jason back to the East Side, and came home and wrote.
