A beautiful green twilight sky, seen this evening on the drive home. I had dinner tonight with Bluejack and his wife. It had been a while since I'd seen him. Ironic, since we live only two blocks apart now! So when I was walking by a restaurant that has recently turned all-vegetarian, I had the notion that we should eat there, since I knew that Bluejack was trying to reform his diet. I was waiting at home for them to buzz my front door. When it got to be a quarter after seven, I convinced myself that they had set seven thirty as the appointed time. I picked up a book of quotations I bought a while back and started browsing through it, so the buzzer, when it did come, startled me! I shook hands with "the lady" as he calls her, and gave Bluejack a hug. We walked down the street, and he teased me about my reluctance to cross against the light. That's why I prefer to cross closer to my house, where there is no traffic signal at all. We examined the menu at the veggie place, then decided to eat at Georgina's, the Italian food and pizza place that I like. Bluejack's vegetarian proclivities have gone by the wayside, he admitted. We had a feast! Despite the inexperienced server ("I have such a terrible memory," she said, which made me chuckle softly.) and one unsatisfactory appetizer, the food was generally good. Bluejack and I talked about our work and our lives. His wife is getting used to Seattle now, but she's had one of those bugs that's going around, so she's been mostly at home the last few weeks. I was embarrassed that I didn't have enough cash to pay for my share! But I'll make it up to them somehow. I can pay him back this Saturday at Trolloween!
I've decided to turn the Clarion West writers workshop web site over to someone else. It's painfully evident that I don't devote even the minimal time for the maintenance needed, so better to admit it and let someone who will do the work get at it!
