All Souls Day

We are truly indefatigable in providing for the needs of the body, but we starve the soul.
-- Ellen Wood

I spent the morning and early afternoon working on journal stuff. It takes time to process the images, then I have to write the entries! So be sure and read about me going to a costume party on Friday, then having a fun time at Trolloween on Saturday.

My legs needed stretching at the mid-afternoon point. I walked down the hill to Broadway, stopping first at Twice-Sold Tales. I bought some romances, some Georgette Heyer (though I think I have all of her books, and I know I've read them all, these seemed to need a good home), and went nuts in the literature section. I'll give details on those books as I read them.

I went around the corner for a snack. Inspired by the piroshkies the other night, I had two at the bakery there: ham and cheese, and ham, bacon, cheese and green onion. Too much the same, you say? No, they are really very different.

I took the bus back up the hill, and stopped off at the grocery store. I tried a new kind of candy: Creme Savers, from Life Savers. These were very nice hard candies (I got the "Orange & Creme" flavor) but they should have had holes in them if they come from Life Saver!

Cool Coffemug dingbat from yodleAbout this month's design: I love the dingbats in this "Yodle" font from Eyesaw (and I love the pun in the site's name!). I'll be tempted to write about certain topics, just to include the appropriate image! I don't know if I can work in too many mentions of cactus or hot dogs, though! The font for the title graphic is Flexure, from Stephen Farrell. Ha! I've just realized that the black and white simplicity here may be inspired by Luke's new look!

I was tempted to go dancing tonight, but I decided to continue working on journal stuff instead. What dedication!

I was writing to Columbine, talking about Trolloween and the scapegoat. She had written about the Wiccan calendar. It reminded me of my slight gripe with some neopagan folk. Now lots of folks who are brought up in a faith may continue to practice it, even though they don't believe every part of the scriptures literally. But if you adopt a faith as an adult, as I think most of the neopagans I know have, I think you should subscribe wholeheartedly. So if the spirit of the neopagan faith is all about the connection between the planets and moon and us, I think you should have your ceremonies of the full moon actually on the night of the full moon, not on the most convenient weekend near that time! Or how can you pick up the resonance or vibration or whatever?
