CrowdsNowadays it is the fashion to emphasize the horrors of the last war. I didn't find it so horrible. There are just as horrible things happening all round us today, if only we had eyes to see them. Tuesday, November 10, 1998
A year ago I was talking about Orycon. Randy wrote me after these entries were posted, asking "Who was this critter called JaneLukeTamiRandy?" I named all four together, usually, because they were sharing a room so that's the way I saw them!
The days are so short now that I'm driving to work at dawn, and driving home at sunset. I'm almost glad that I have to walk outside to another building for lunch! It was crisp and bright today, very pleasant. The tester on my team is back from her vacation, which is a good thing. She's very bright, and I feel very comfortable with her. Together we accomplished "forking the tree," which means splitting our files into two branches, identical to each other. That way we can make changes that won't be visible until our next major release, and make changes that are posted to the web immediately. But it will be a pain to be sure and duplicate the changes in both places!
Last night I finally got the newest issue of Machination posted to the web. This is the newsletter for the Seattle Cacophony Society. I also formatted and posted the event report from the Inanimate Object Bungee Jump in September. I like to have some other folks do the writing for these, since I'll always link in my journal for the day, and I don't want to give the impression that it's all me! I have other reports and materials that I need to post; I want to get at least one more done before the weekend. I don't like being late with tasks like this, but work and fatigue got in the way. That's one reason why I always like to include the first event from the next month in this month's calendar. It gives me a bit more breathing room!
Quite a different night tonight at Two-tone Tuesday! I got there a few minutes after nine, and the place was packed! I couldn't figure out why there were three times as many people as there have been recently, until someone mentioned that school was closed tomorrow for Veterans' Day. There were vast numbers of high-school kids, along with a sprinkling of older folks. The dance floor was so crowded that I didn't attempt to find a partner for about forty five minutes! Strangely, many of my regular partners weren't there. But enough lindy hoppers showed up later in the evening that I was satisfied with the amount of dancing I did. Darn! Tonight should have been the night that Jack and his daughter joined me for dancing! In other dance news, I subscribed to the Portland Swing chat email list. I want to ask if there are any Portland lindy hoppers going to Orycon! |
