A Day at HomeFor my part I distrust all generalizations about women, favourable and unfavourable, masculine and feminine, ancient and modern; all alike, I should say, result from paucity of experience. Wednesday, December 2, 1998 I left work at noon yesterday, and I'm at home today. I'm really not feeling well. I hope I'll feel up to going dancing tonight! Since I haven't been lindy hopping for over a week, I miss it. I'm annoyed with myself; I'm sponsoring a Cacophony event in the early part of January, and I was late submitting the writeup to Jayson, who is doing the newsletter this month. So it will be in the January newsletter, and it will be on the web, but it won't go out in the printed version this month, and that's really the point of scheduling an event for the first part of the month to come, in case the January newsletter is late. We get some breathing room that way. My event will be a calendar-making group project. Folks use whatever methods they want to produce black and white images for the illustrations, and either write or use the computer or type to fill in the grids with dates, quotes, weirdness, etc. Then I'll take the originals away and duplicate and comb-bind copies for the participants. I've sponsored this event once before, and I've produced similar calendars all on my own. Rubber stamps, collage, calligraphy, working in a group -- no wonder I like it!
This month's design started from an image from Graphics Depot. I turned it into a border design, and created the other graphics with Microsoft Image Composer.
I relaxed this afternoon with a really hot bath. I wish I had the extra-large clawfoot tub from the Hot Springs, but my tub is long enough for me to lie down in, and deep enough to fill to a comfortable level. I used the green-tea scented oil (a few drops), the green-tea scented bath gel, and lit the green-tea scented candle for good measure. Then I lay back and read my new Jo Beverley novel, "Forbidden Magic." What bliss! I just kept hotting up the water periodically. It's official! I'm not watching enough TV! I really don't get very many phone calls (because I'm online, tying up the phone?) so the ringing of the phone almost startled me. A young man asked if I'd be willing to answer some questions for a survey. My age group checked out OK, and I've had cable for the requisite number of years, but since I only watch a few hours a week, my average TV use per day didn't meet the minimum bar for the rest of the questions. I didn't get to give my opinions on whatever the topic was, or lie and say I watch much more prestigious programs than I really do. Darn it!
Ten o'clock: I decided to stay home. I'll be dancing tomorrow and Friday, though!
