Reading
Wednesday, January 20, 1999 I wanted to link to some of the journals that I read -- just the ones that I happened to read this early Wednesday evening. Some won't have updated until later tonight. They are in the order they appear in my favorites folders. I have folders called Diary 1, Diary 2, Diary 3, Diary 4, and Diaries with Frames. These aren't numbered in order of priority; I just keep creating a new folder when the previous one gets so many bookmarks in it that it's inconvenient, then divide them up.
Gwen starts off with what she calls a laundry list entry. "My hair didn't feel any shinier," she writes, after using a shampoo that's supposed to improve your hair. I actually bought some spray-on stuff to make one's hair shinier, but I don't think I like it. A true test would be to only spray it on half your head, then see if anyone can tell the difference! Gwen is such a funny writer! I wish she posted more often. Liralen often talks about her daily life, describing it in such loving detail that it's almost like lifestyle porn for me. I don't envy her though, I admire her! This entry is more introspective than some entries. She inspects her motives for doing things. My Head Talking always shows as "changed" when my browser looks for updated pages, which is a slight bother, especially when I know he's away and won't be back to posting yet. Turtle is acerbic and anti-microsoft, but I still like reading him. Dave Van's kids will finally be going to speech therapy. He's very frank about his family life! We don't hear much about his job. Helen of Up From Sloth writes such beautiful, ornate prose. Gorgeous! I've been reading her for a long time; I think I found her journal not long after she started. Beth/Xeney/Lizzie talks about her job today, examining the differences between being a trial attorney and an appellate attorney. "The written materials [trial motions] we see are often poorly researched and badly written," she says, and at first I thought, "Well, of course! if the trial materials had been good, the case wouldn't be being appealed!" But that can't be correct. If a case is appealed, it's because the prosecution or judge made a mistake, not the defense, right? Oooh, Event Horizon has two entries up! What a treat! She's going to a new job, and was telling her boss and coworkers today. The reaction of Wesley was priceless! I like the way she interprets her dreams, and her medical view of her own body is always interesting to me. Bill's Journal is how I labeled the next one, but he calls it "Man Out of Time." Journals that have the newest entry on the index page are inconvenient, unless they also post it on a page that has a unique filename at the same time. How can I link to a particular entry until it has moved to its permanent home? At least this system isn't as bad as what Kymm used to do. Bill's another Seattle journaler. I think he even works for my ISP! Ouch/Scab: This is the last entry of Wil's journal, supposedly. He's been recovering from a busted long-term relationship. I've written to him a few times. He's doing swing dancing, so maybe I'll see him on the dance floor! When a journal stops, it's still unsettling for me. I'm change-averse in most parts of my life. If I start reading a journal, I'm likely to continue! Touch the World, "Absalom's" new journal project, was recommended by me a few days ago. It's still new, but he's keeping up with it very well. I found Skeletons in My Closet by joining the Thinking Aloud webring. I usually make a tour of the ring every morning from work, although I already read most of the members separately. Dianne is in Australia, so her morning is my evening and she's a day ahead. She has an inexplicable interest in cricket. Her interest in P.G. Wodehouse is much more understandable.
