Before a Journey
Thursday, January 21, 1999 Ha! Even on a night when I come directly home from dance class (in order to get ready for my trip tomorrow), I still don't start writing until eleven o'clock! Where did I get this odd combination of procrastination and promptness? I think I'm getting better at giving good feedback to the folks I dance with during class. Several guys sincerely thanked me! But next session I need to also find a class where there will be dancers more experienced than I am. It's important for my development as a Lindy Hopper! We do have a range of abilities and experience in the intermediate lindy class; some people have only had six weeks worth of lessons, some have been dancing longer than I have.
I'm so much looking forward to the weekend! I still need to pack, attend to some personal tasks, take out the trash and the recyclables...I think that's all. Except that I also should empty my mailbox and deal with that stuff. Procrastination again! I certainly have no excuse: my front door is five feet from the box! But once I'm inside my apartment, I just don't think of picking up the mailbox key from the hook and going and getting the mail. I don't know why it seems proper to take care of the mail before I go out of town instead of when I get back, but I did the same thing before I went to Swing Out Northwest! I did manage to get some things done at work, but I'll admit to being distracted by anticipation. Potlatch is just so much fun for me! A precursor convention, Janecon, was my first contact with science fiction fandom, and my first contact with many of the people who are my dearest friends today. So seeing all these folks, and talking, and listening, and laughing to my heart's content, just seems so perfectly right! This will be Jack's first Potlatch, but he's been going to conventions for years. I think he mentioned wanting to go to it the first time we met, or maybe in email before that! Vicki Jean is also going to be there. Fun!
I watched Wally's cable access TV show, Don't Quote Me On This, tonight. He and his cohost Dave had local comic Amy Alpine on with them. She's now hosting a "talk radio" show on the net, at Talkspot.com. I told Wally last year that he should think about getting his show on that sort of setup. The lack of boundaries in a net production is cool! Once you are getting your stuff out there, it's as easy to be heard in a remote part of the globe as it is in your hometown. He and Dave have good chemistry and I like listening to them or watching them. In a turnabout sort of thing, Wally and Dave had been on Amy's show earlier today, but the archived show isn't available yet.
